Pronounced "NEW-GUT" .Like new gut (stomach).
I've heard it "Noo-Git" my whole life, and I live in America. that's what I am calling it until someone from Google says otherwise.
My dear boy, It is absolutely British to pronounce this sweet (a past favourite of mine) nougat – a french word perhaps. I particularly enjoyed a type with cherries and nuts in it. No one ever called it just nugget.
